Above Ground Opening

Passageway Between Rooms

When the sun is right, you get a beautiful laser like light show.

One thing you see in many areas of the Cenotes are fossilized conch shells

Chac Mool

Before you get into the water here, you can walk down a short path to an opening in the ground which goes directly into the underground dome you will get to surface in. By shining a light down the hole, you can see the water below. There are two water entries to Chac-Mool, both of which you will see on a normal dive and both leading into the same rooms. The first room is relatively large and you can see out to the surface through a large opening with roots and limbs hanging down from the surface.. In the second room, a portion of the ceiling has collapsed under an air dome where Divers can surface thus allowing divers to admire two levels of beautiful stalactites. This is where you will find the hole from the surface where light shines in when the sun is in the right position above.Along the opening of the main entrance, trunks and branches reach into the water. It is here where on a sunny day a stunning laser light show takes place. With its large rooms and and maximum depth of 60 feet, Chac Mool is perfect for any novice Cavern Diver. Coincidentally,it also offers long penetration for Cave Divers and is home to the largest underwater stalagtite in the world.

This is the view of the surface hole from below inside the dome room

Entering First Room

The Dome Room where you can surface inside the cave system to breathable air.

Nearing the exit, there is a small boat that nobody seems to know how it got there.
